I understand a country's need to 'defend' itself, but enacting measures like this, scare the hell out of me!

This interests me:
Allowing Britain to deport anyone who fosters hatred, or advocates violence to further beliefs, or justifies acts of violence. If they are British citizens, where would they be deported to? I'm fairly sure Australia doesn't want to go back to being a penal colony.

This other than the vague wording concerning terrorist activities, this phrase scares me the most - "Better integration" for people living in Britain who are "presently inadequately integrated."

And I thought some of the measures the US were taking were scary!
Who does she think she is?

I am very concerned with the turns this country has taken in the past four years. Yes, 9-11 happened, yes we were all nervous but it did not need a knee jerk reaction that took a lot of our rights away. If you look, the Patriot act basically gives permission for anyone to come into your home without probably cause. I got a really great bumpersticker from notinourname.com it says: Repeal the Patriot Act!

Yes, I'm sure we'll have about as much luck making that happen as some Germans had tryin to get the Nazi Enabling act of 1933 repealed.

Sunset provisions of the Act stated that it would expire on it's own by now, but, of course, it hasn't, and they're trying to expand it.

No need to worry though. As long as we all have gas for our SUV's, and HDTV, everything will be fine. Besides, Freedom and Liberty are so old-hat.[/sarcasm]

I remember spydielives and I had a conversation about it when they extended/ammended the act, but my understanding is that even though they claim to have improved security and deterred terrorists, they can not prove it at all. Spydie did however mention that arrests for other crimes are way up thanks to this act.

It always scares me how passive people are, and how willing they are to start down a path of lost liberties.

I think it's just history repeating itself.

Germans couldn't resist the call of self-destruction, nor can Americans. Look at how over 65% of us are a bunch of fat asses.

...and we Americans get FOOD ALLERGIES!...LOL...How do you have a FOOD allergy for fuck's sake?

I forgot which comedian it was that said, "I guarantee ain't nobody in Kenya got a food allergy problem!"

The Great Bald Eagle has also gotten a spare tire!...LOL

Food Allergies = Natural Selection.

My nephews came home with a note stating that they couldn't have peanut butter, in their own home, within 72 hours of a school day start. (that eliminates every weekend!) I asked how this person with 'severe' allergies would survive in the real world. Can you imagine this person commuting and asking everyone on the bus to refrain from eating peanut butter?

I can't imagine what it is like to run a camp now.

It was pretty freaky watching the press conference. It seems that they are set to lose a little bit of themselves to preserve it all. I don't see how it can work.

I wonder what elkster's reaction to it all is?
