I have come to realize that trying to eat healthy sucks. It is almost impossible for me to consume 2000 calories/day. Stick a quiche or bag of Oreos in front of me and I'll snarf the whole thing, but I'm trying to be good, and I've signed up for this pregnancy tracking website. I'm making sure I add everything, and it's freaking impossible! I range between 1600 and 1800 and I feel completely bloated. Give me back those empty calories! I'm sure some of it has to do with cutting back on exercise, I just don't need the extra calories now, and I can't just eat for the sake of stuffing calories into me. One of the areas I'm having the biggest problem is with getting 'enough' fat. They claim I should be eating 15% protein, 30% fat and 55% calories from carbs. I'm more like 30% protein, 15% fat and 55% carbs. I just can't do it. There is no way I could ever eat the food pyramid, I'd end up gnawing on my arm for protein.
Who does she think she is?

When I first got pregnant with my eldest, we went on a book buying spree. One of the ones we liked was What to Expect When You're Expecting it was informative and somewhat reassuring. I was bothered by the no ice cream stance, but for general info it was great. Then Mr. Ed discovered the book What to Eat When You're Expecting. That's when my nightmare began.

See, since neither of us had experienced being pregnant (or being with someone who was) we relied on books, the doctor, and other people's knowledge. Well, Mr. Ed, being the sweet, loving, kind, anal spouse that he is, too the latter book literally. I was not allowed any processed meat, ice cream, junk food, caffeine, alcohol, etc.. I was allowed vegetables - but not too many carrots - and wheat. Oh, and cottage cheese. Since Mr. Ed was doing all the food prep, I figured, "Okay, this is fine, he makes it, I'll eat it." Well, by the fourth morning of cracked wheat cereal (Cooked like oatmeal) with blueberries, I was getting pretty sick of it. That night, he made me whole wheat pasta with pesto sauce. I looked at the plate, then looked at him. I felt a little nauseous, and he commented that I looked a little green. I took a small taste and felt even worse. I told him that I never wanted to see wheat on my plate again. In fact, I said that he could take that cookbook with all of it's grandiose ideas of pregnant women's needs and shove it where the sun don't shine. He didn't take that well. However, he never made me anything with wheat again; and, I convinced him that ice cream was just fine, and a sausage now and then sure wouldn't hurt anything.

What I got out of that experience, is to eat what you want when you want. It really does all balance out. And, no one can determine what's best for you, except you.

I hope this helps a little. *g*

Heh - I can just picture the scene! Why anti-icecream? That just seems so wrong.

Thanks this did help. I figured I had to do something, I was so unmotivated I was having peanut butter and honey on a tortilla wrap 2x a day, but I've got to find a happy medium.

I have been having the same damn problem...oh, I have no problems eating my calories, but doing so in a *healthy* fashion??? Well, I know I'm probably still eating underneath what I should be.

Solution: declare pizza and chinese food healthy. THERE's some extra calories. ;D

It's true! I am! We are!

I go for another ultrasound tomorrow, there are some concerns, so hopefully they'll be all cleared up. Thanks very much.
