The rest of the story - not the truth, but the rest.

I used to enjoy listening to Paul Harvey's 'The Rest of the Story'. Hubby listens to the radio as he gets ready for work and this little blurb comes on around 5:35am. Then I started looking in to the stories he was telling. I can't remember what the first one was that didn't seem right to me, it might have been the identity of the original Gerber Baby, who I think he identified as Humphrey Bogart. Turns out not only did he have the wrong person, he's also got the wrong sex for the baby.

The latest one to tick me off was last week, when he decided to tell a story about Benedict Arnold, and the fiction of how he became known as 'Dark Eagle'. There is really only one small problem with the story, it isn't true!

Of course I could just turn off the radio, but instead I listen to all the details and then have to go research them later in the day. Not quite as enjoyable as it once was.

But really, how is this guy any better than your buddy who passes on chain letters before checking them out with Snopes first? Surely if this man has his own website, someone on his staff could do a bit of Googling for him! Or heck - go to the archives - actually research a story.
