And yet we still ended up at the hospital with Victoria tonight. Earlier this afternoon hubby commented that it looked like she was bruised around her mouth and nose. I thought maybe she's a bit chilly...but 6 hours later she was still blue along her smile lines, her nails seemed a little dark and she sounded a bit wheezy. Her lips themselves weren't blue, but I thought I'd call Telehealth Ontario just to make sure.

After asking a bunch of questions about her health, they suggested that we should go to the hospital (I think this is the default answer if there isn't a clear-cut 'oh that's normal') so we did. One weird thing is that they suggested that her temp of 36.5 at the armpit was a bit low (!!)- I think she misunderstood how I took the reading.

As soon as we entered the ER at CHEO they triaged her; weight, O2 saturation, HR, BP and temp were all textbook perfect. I immediately felt better, but they wanted a doc to verify and double check her. End result is they have no idea why she has slight duskiness around her mouth, but they could find nothing wrong. RSV was ruled out as there was no where near enough mucous, she isn't having seizures, and she's not dehydrated. Her chest sounded fine, and there were no signs of heart disease. Oh, and the wheezy breathing is just normal nose-breathing baby sounds, but of course, once you're worried, everything seems wrong.

We have her one month check-up on Tuesday and will talk to the family doctor about it. I never, ever want to think that my baby isn't getting sufficient oxygen again!
Who does she think she is?

*BIG HUGS* hon, you aren't one of those parents. Blue is not an ordinary color; although the ER definitely treated it as something out of the extrodinary. There is a difference. If it helps, we would have taken either of the boys in if they had displayed similar symptoms. And, I would have been breating into a paper bag after everything you went through.

Again, *HUGS* and I hope everything goes well with the dr's appointment.

Take care, hon.

Wow, I would have freaked out, too. Good that she's okay, though. And you really hit the nail on the head when you said "once you're worried, everything seems wrong." Even with my medical experience, I get tunnel-vision when my kids seem sick. I've taken Oscar in twice for what I was *sure* was an ear infection, but it turned out to be absolutely nothing. Oh well. Better to be overly concerned than not concerned enough!

any recent pics of your little angel???

I did wonder what they could really do over the phone, but thought if I could avoid bringing a 1mos old in to the hospital (you know where all the sick people are) I would give it a shot.

Hi! I found your LJ via-moo-via-lesliekajeira(I know I spelled THAT one wrong)-via a multitude of others, and after reading this post I wanted to throw in a quick thought, if you don't mind :)

Both my boys, now aged 14 and nearly 4 years respectively, used to go blue round the mouth when they needed to burp, weirdly enough. Sometimes my youngest would literally look like he was suffering from hypothermia of the face until I figured out that hoisting him over my shoulder and rubbing or patting his back 'til he gave a hearty belch made his normal colour return within minutes.

Sorry for sticking my nose in without even an introduction, but even now, I still freak out if I think there is something wrong with Fury, the youngest. Just hoping that maybe a little info from a stranger might be a little help in the future. :)

Hey thanks for popping by and the comment. I'll remember gas issues next time for sure. They really need to come with better manuals.
