2009 reading list

A truly pathetic list. I have no excuses.

Date Author, Book Link or comments
Jan. 9/09 PD James, Innocent Blood
Jan. 17/09 PJ Tracy, Dead Run Kinda weird coming in to the middle of the series. Not sure if I like the characters, but I bought the next book last night so we'll see.
Jan. 22/09 PJ Tracy, Snow Blind No better or worse than the previous book, some interesting interpretations of useable technology, but contains plots that come at you from left field.
??? The Bullet Trick
March 14, 2009 Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451 Interesting read in a world full of soundbites.
March 29, 2009 C S Lewis, The Screwtape Letters
July 26, 2009 Ann Rule, Too Late to Say Goodbye I am fairly sure that if this is not the first True Crime book I have read then Ann Rule is the only TC author I have ever read (I have hazy memories of another one of her books). Quite frankly I do not see the attraction to this genre of writing. This book to me is nothing more than tabloid sensationalism wrapped up in a pretty cover. Agenda, exploitation and bias all present and accounted for.
August 17, 2009 Richard North Patterson, Conviction Makes me very glad we don't have to deal with either elected judges or the death penalty in Canada.
Aug 22, 2009 Eileen Dreyer, Head Games Pretty darn predicable. When you're introduced to a character and you go, 'they did it', the book is lost.
September 2, 2009 David Landes, The Wealth and Poverty of Nations
September 7, 2009 Patricia Cornwell, Book of the Dead The dialogue in these books drives me nuts. I honestly can't believe she writes such serious characters with such childish behaviours. Are we honestly to believe that none of her professional, accomplished characters is able to have an open and honest conversation with anyone they care about? On top of that, the number of 'coincidences' in this episode rivals a story told by Kathy Reichs.
October 14, 2009 Peter Suskind, Perfume, The Story of a Murderer
October 31, 2009 Nicholas Crane, Mercator: The Man who Mapped the Planet
November 22, 2009 Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything
November 22, 2009 Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything
December 28, 2009 Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
